Knowing how to prepare a meal is an important skill to learn. It is an essential part of  living as we need food to nurture the body. Also, making meals can save time if prepared in advance, save money by cutting your grocery bill, reduce food waste, and is a good way to bring family and friends to the table.

You do not have to be a chef in the kitchen to make dishes that are fulfilling and tasty. However, it is good to know several basic cooking tips.

  • Trying a new recipe? Read and re-read cooking directions before you begin cooking.
  • Use salt. Season meats, stews, soups, and more with kosher or sea salt.
  • Clean your space as you cook.

  • Purchase a sharp chef’s knife (or cook’s knife) that is excellent for preparing any meal.
  • Invest in a cast iron skillet.
  • Store fresh herbs in a glass of water in the refrigerator.
